Draft Ballina Local Transport PlanĀ (LTP)

Local Transport Plans:-

The National Transport Authority (NTA) placed an onus on each Local Authority to prepare and develop Local Transport Plans (LTP), the plans when completed are incorporated into the Local Authority's statutory Local Area Plans (LAP).

The LTP will guide future transport investment in the larger towns by developing a transport system that epitomises sustainability, accessibility, and community development while catering for demand.

The plans examine all transport modes and how they interacted both in the town centres and environs, and how developing on current infrastructure and incorporating exisitng link routes and reimaginging current traffic routes can provide seamless connectivity for active travel and public transport modes to promote and encourage active travel which will reduce traffic congestion & pollution within the towns.

Ballina Local Transport Plan

The Ballina Local Transport Plan (LTP) was officially formalised in March 2025. Clifton Scannell Emerson Associate (CSEA) Consultants were appointed by Mayo County Council under the guidance of the NTA to prepare the Ballina LTP.

The initial draft of the plan went on public display from 18th December 2023 to 8th February 2024. A public consultation evening hosted by the Mayo County Council’s Active Travel Section along with CSEA was held in the Ballina Civic Offices on 31st January 2024. This event provided further opportunity for public engagement on the proposed plan.
