Financial Assistance For Architectural Conservation Works Under The Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2024 And The Historic Structures Fund 2024

Malcolm Noonan TD, Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, has launched the Built Heritage Investment Scheme and the Historic Structures Fund for 2024.The Built Heritage Investment Scheme and the Historic Structures Fund support the owners and custodians of protected structures and those in Architectural Conservation Areas to meet their obligations to care for their properties.

Historic Structures Fund 2024

Funding for the Historic Structures Fund (HSF) is for conservation works to heritage structures, in both private and public ownership. The primary focus of the Historic Structures Fund is on conservation and enhancement of historic structures and buildings for the benefit of communities and the public. Grants of between €15,000 and €50,000 are available under Stream 1, and of between €50,000 and €200,000 under Stream 2. For 2024, the HSF continues to include streams for Vernacular Structures and Historic Shopfronts. The Historic Shopfront stream seeks to incentivise the conservation of historic shopfronts, including Irish-language shopfronts.

Circular HSF/2024 ‘Historic Structures Fund’ sets out the operation of the scheme and includes the relevant application forms.

Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2024

The Built Heritage Investment Scheme is intended to assist with the repair and conservation of structures protected under the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended), RPS, and in certain cases, works to structures within Architectural Conservation Areas (ACAs). This Scheme aims to support a significant number of labour-intensive, small-scale conservation projects across the country and to support the employment of skilled and experienced conservation professionals, craftspeople and tradespersons in the repair of the historic built environment.

Circular BHIS 24/1 sets out full details of the scheme along with application forms, and all supporting appendices. The minimum level of funding awarded will be €2,500 up to a maximum of €15,000.  A minimum of 50% match funding is required.

Completed applications, with the relevant supporting documentation including reports, photographs and quotations must be submitted by hard copy only to Architectural Conservation Office, Architects Department, Mayo County Council, Áras an Chantae, Castlebar, Co. Mayo

The closing date for receipt of applications for both schemes is 4pm on Friday 12th January 2024.
