The never predictable October Nights does its ‘all styles/ no barriers’ thing once again on the October bank holiday week-end, across two head-spinning nights! If October Nights ‘22 had a distinctly Mayo flavour, this year we’ve looked far & wide to invite some of Irelands’ brightest musical lights to Ballina. We’ve cherry-picked the best from Irelands’ festival stages and brought them under one roof. It all adds up to a once-off experience of contrasting styles where audiences embrace the ‘sense of surprise’ that’s inherent in such a’ no-rules’ format as October Nights. So what’s cooking? Irish hip-hop artist Celvaviedmai makes her debut Mayo while Peter Broderick does what only Peter Broderick does. He’s hard to pin down but impossible not to love. See for yourself. County Clare native Siomha has THE most soulful of voices, sometimes in our native tongue. Harpist Alannah Thornburgh deftly switches between American Appalachian music and Irish trad. Laurie Shaw will, no doubt, give his new songs written about Ballina the alternative pop treatment.
