GREENWAY ASSET RENEWAL WORKS 2023
Mayo County Council are improving the user experience of the Great Western Greenway by carrying out Surface Renewal Works along much of the 44km route.
Works will commence on Monday 18th of September and run until Friday 1st of December 2023.
The works will involve the localised rerouting of short sections of the greenway. Signed diversion routes, along quiet local roads, will be in place Monday to Friday. The Greenway will be fully open throughout each weekend.

A little bit of greenway history..........
The Great Western Greenway, linking Westport and Achill Sound, was developed by Mayo County Council between May 2009 and July 2011. Section 1 linking Newport and Mulranny (18km) was opened in April 2010 and Sections 2 and 3 linking Westport to Newport (13km) and Mulranny to Achill Sound (11km) respectively were opened in July 2011.
