Income Limits


With effect from 1st January 2023, the social housing income eligibility bands have increased by €5,000.

Pursuant to Section 20(2) of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2009, where a household applies for social housing support, the housing authority concerned shall, subject to and in accordance with regulations made for the purposes of this section, carry out an assessment (in this Act referred to as a “social housing assessment”) of the household’s eligibility, and need for, social housing support for the purposes of determinin

  • (a) whether the household is qualified for such support, and
  • (b) an appropriate form of such support for that household.

Please be advised of the following,

  • Households previously assessed and deemed not to qualify on income grounds may reapply for assessment under the new thresholds.
  • A household whose application was reviewed between 18 November 2021 and 31 December 2022, and which was removed from the social housing waiting list due to exceeding the thresholds in place at that time, and subsequently reapplies and is assessed as being eligible under the revised threshold will keep the time they accrued and would subsequently have accrued had they remained on the housing list.

These arrangements will remain in place until 30 June 2023.
