Application Forms, Licences and Permits

Please find information below regarding Casual Trading Permits, Parking Permits, Parking Fine Appeals, Skip Licences, Hoarding & Scaffolding Licences, Temporary Signage Licences, Equipment on Road Licences and Road Opening Licences in the Castlebar Municipal District


  • Casual Trading Permits

    Friday Farmers’ Market, Saturday Casual Trading, Event Casual Trading Application Form – Available HERE

  • Equipment on Road Licence

    If you wish to place equipment such as a cherry pick, crane etc. in a public place, you must apply for a licence by completing the application form and returning it to the Castlebar Municipal District Office. Available HERE

  • Hoarding & Scaffolding Licence

    Section 254 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 governs the issuing of a Hoarding, Fencing or Scaffolding Licence. Your Local Authority may grant a licence for the construction of hoarding, fencing or scaffolding on a public road.  If you wish to apply for such a licence, you will be required to submit plans, and or drawings as necessary.  

    To apply for a scaffolding permit, please follow these steps:

    Please complete the form and send it and the appropriate fee to your local Municipal District Office at the following: 

    Castlebar Area Office, Aras an Chontae, The Mall, Castlebar, Co. Mayo, F23 WF90

    The application should be accompanied by: 

    1.  A public liability policy in the amount of €6.5 million with a specific indemnity for Mayo County Council.           

    2. The appropriate fee: 

    • For a period of one year €1,250. 
    • For a period of more than one year €1,250 per year or part of year. 
    • For a period of less than one year €125 per month or part of a month

  • Rate Payers Parking Permit

  • Parking Fine Appeal

  • Road Opening Licence

    Mayo County Council wishes to advise the public that it is an offence to damage or excavate a public road without the prior consent of the council in the form of a Road Opening Licence. 

    An application for a Road Opening Licence must be submitted online through the MapRoad Website which is administrated by the Road Management Office (RMO)

  • Skip Licence

    If you intend on using a skip on a public road, you will need to apply to Castlebar Municipal District Office for a permit.   

    To apply for a skip permit, please follow these steps:

    Please complete the form and send it and the appropriate fee to Castlebar Municipal District Office at the following:

    The application should be accompanied by:

  • Temporary Signage Licence

    If you wish to erect a Temporary Sign to advertise an upcoming event you may apply to Castlebar Municipal District for same.  

    • Maximum of  2 signs allowed,  
    • Signage not permitted to be erected until you receive approval from this office, we will contact you once a decision is made. 
    • Signage only permitted to be erected 10 days prior to the event taking place and all signs must be taken down immediately after the event. 
    • Signs are not permitted to be erected on Traffic signs/lights or roundabouts. 

    To apply for a Temporary Signage Licence, please follow these steps:

    Please complete the form and send it and the appropriate fee to your local Municipal District Office at the following:

    The application should be accompanied by: 

    1. Appropriate Fee of €10.00 per sign (non-refundable). 
    2. Digital photograph/PDF of the sign with size/dimensions 
    3. If the sign is for a building, the Property Owner/Tenant must submit a digital photograph of the building façade indicating signage location
