Local Elections

Nomination of Candidates

You are eligible to be elected to or co-opted to Mayo County Council if you are ordinarily resident in Ireland, are at least 18 years old and not subject to any of the disqualifications. You do not have to be an Irish citizen to stand as a local election candidate.

There is a specific week, four weeks before the local election polling day, in which you must make your nomination or be nominated. Detailed information about this timescale and the nomination of candidates is available from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage
