Freedom of Information

The Minister for the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Michael McGrath TD, recently announced a review of the Freedom of Information Act and published the roadmap for the review, for further details please see: http://www.gov.ie/FOIreform/

A short online survey has been prepared as a convenient way for individuals to participate in the review process. It should take no more than five minutes to complete and may be accessed from the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FOIreview

The current Freedom of Information legislation was enacted and applied to local authorities, including Mayo County Council, in October 2014. The legislation gives you the following legal rights:

  • The right to access official records held by Mayo County Council as defined by the Act
  • The right to have personal information held by Mayo County Council about you corrected or updated where such information is incomplete, incorrect or misleading
  • The right to be given reasons for decisions taken by Mayo County Council that affect you

While a Freedom of Information request is free of charge, fees for search, retrieval, and copying may apply.
