Secondary School Programmes

Girls Active

Girls Active is a joint programme between the HSE and Mayo Sports Partnership and is aimed at teenage girls who are not currently participating in sport. It aims to develop more supportive environments for teenage girls’ physical activity in schools.

Girls Active has been facilitated in secondary schools across the county for several years and has proved to be one of LSP’s most successful programmes.

The ‘It’s for Girls’ Initiative

‘It’s for Girls' encompasses many strands of MSP’s work programmes for girls in sport. It sets schools a challenge to get the most girls to take part in the Mayo.ie Western People Women’s Mini Marathon. The initiative is all about participation. The more girls each school enters the better the chance of winning the It’s for Girls trophy.

This is a great opportunity for schools across the West of Ireland to encourage their girls to increase fitness levels by training to walk or jog the 10k event and getting healthier and more active in the process.

All participating schools are in with a chance of walking away with the coveted Mayo Sports Partnership Secondary Schools Mini Marathon ‘It’s for Girls’ Trophy and winners will be decided on a percentage basis of girls over the age of 12. Entry fee is only €10 per student. Teachers/Coaches/Mentors from the school can also enter as part of the team for €10.

All participants will also receive a special Mini Marathon Technical T-shirt & finishers medal and a fantastic.
