Driving a motorcycle can be a wonderful experience when done safely. Research shows however, that it is perhaps the most dangerous mode of transport on our roads.

Motorcycles represent less than 2 percent of licensed vehicles and yet bikers account for at least 12 percent of road deaths, which means that motorcyclists are 6 times more likely to be killed on our roads than other vehicle users. In 2019, there were 16 fatal motorcycle accidents on Irish roads.

Mayo County Council is committed to playing its part to ensure that everything possible is done to eliminate motorcycle fatalities from our county’s roads.
