Foxford Loop Walks


Foxford is a small town located in North Mayo and is approximately 8km from Ballina town. Situated on the River Moy, the picturesque town of Foxford has established an excellent reputation as a tourist centre. Nestling between the Ox and Nephin mountains, Foxford is the ideal location for a relaxing, stress-free break away from the routine of everyday life. There are a number of loop walks in the area which vary in distance and difficulty

Foxford Town Loop
Trailhead: Car park, located beside Children’s Playground

Terrain: Country Lanes
Level of Difficulty: Easy

Shanwar / Belgarrow Loop
Trailhead: Car park, located beside Children’s Playground
Distance: 8km
Estimated Time: 1 hr 30mins – 2hrs
Trail Waymarking: Waymarked using Red Directional Arrows
Terrain: Country Lanes
Level of Difficulty: Moderate - Hard
Minimum Gear: Walking Shoes, Raingear, Snack, Fluid & Mobile Phone.

Foxford Way Loop
Trailhead: Car park, located beside Children’s Playground
Distance: 33 km
Estimated Time: 8hr – 9hr
Trail Waymarking: Waymarked using the Yellow Walking Man & Directional Arrows
Terrain: Country Lanes, Grassy Paths, Mountain track
Level of Difficulty: Hard
Minimum Gear: Walking Shoes, Raingear, Snack, Fluid & Mobile Phone.

Prebaun Loop
Trailhead: Attymachugh Church
Distance: 10km
Estimated Time: 2 hours to 3 hours 30 minutes
Trail Waymarking: Waymarked using a black post with a direction arrow (Purple)
Terrain: Country lanes, bog tracks and hillside
Level of Difficulty: Moderate - Hard
Minimum Gear: Walking Shoes, Raingear, Snack, Fluid & Mobile Phone.

Larganmore Loop
Trailhead: Viewing Point at Glendaduff, Foxford
Distance: 14km
Estimated Time: 2 hours
Highest Point: 271m
Trail Waymarking: Waymarked using a black post with a direction arrow (Purple)
Terrain: Surface roads, country lanes and bog / mountain tracks.
Level of Difficulty: Moderate - Hard
