Plaque Unveiled in Ballina as part of Year of the French Programme

The Cathaoirleach of the Ballina Municipal District, Cllr Seamus Weir and the elected members of the Ballina Municipal District, together with Ballina 2023, the French Embassy and In Humberts Footsteps gathered on Friday evening last August 18th, 2023, in Ballina to unveil a plaque at French Lane, Pearse Street, Ballina.

A Civic Welcome took place afterward at Ballina Civic Offices to mark the start of a series of special events taking place in Ballina, Killala and Kilcummin as part of the Year of the French Programme. On the evening, the Mayo Youth Trad Ensemble performed the “Humbert Suite” for the event guests.

Special guests on the evening and during the weekend were: Deputy French Ambassador Marianne Barkan Cowdy; Deputy Mayor of La Rochelle Anna Maria Spano; Christian and Nicole Fagnes, guests from Ballina’s twinned town of Athis Mons; Catherine Gagneux, Honorary Consul for France Guests from Longford County Council included: Cllr Turlough McGovern, Cllr Paraic Brady, Paddy Mahon, Chief Executive of Longford County Council and Mark Cunningham, Chair of Ballinamuck Re-enactment Committee
