Home Energy Saving Kits Launched At Mayo County Libraries

Date: 30-03-2023

Householders in Mayo will literally be equipped with the right tools to save energy and reduce their energy bills with the launch of the Home Energy Saving Kits into Mayo County Libraries. The kits are available to borrow from Castlebar and Ballina libraries.

The Home Energy Saving Kits were officially launched by Cllr Martin McLoughlin at Castlebar Library on March 23rd, 2023. The kits have been developed by Dublin’s energy agency Codema and contain five tools and six exercises to help the public save energy at home.

The kits are available to borrow free-of-charge for a period of one week and each kit contains five tools and six exercises for householders to save energy and cut costs.

The items in the toolkits address three key areas of energy use in the home - space heating, hot water and electricity consumption - and can help identify common problems such as lack of insulation, poor ventilation and the appliances in the home that might be driving up electricity bills.

The kit is also accompanied by a step-by-step user manual, so it can appeal to homeowners with even the most basic knowledge of energy-saving.

The five tools and six exercises in the Home Energy Saving Kits are: (1) Fridge/Freezer Thermometer, (2) Temperature and Humidity Meter, (3) Radiator Key, (4) Thermal  Leak Detector, (5) Plug-in Energy Monitor and (6) The Water Flow Rate Exercise .

To borrow a kit, please contact: Tina Burns in Castlebar Library on (094) 9047940, or Paul Tighe in Ballina Library on (096) 70833.
