The week is for everyone, regardless of age, background or fitness level. With a focus on grassroots initiatives, the aim is to inspire Europeans to #BeActive on a regular basis and create opportunities in peoples’ everyday lives to exercise more.

Being Active doesn’t mean having to be part of a sports club, a gym, running marathons or cycling across Europe. Being Active can be running around playing with your children, grabbing a walk with work colleagues on your lunch break, going outside and exploring the great outdoors - whatever gets you moving to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle.

Mayo Sports Partnership will be launching many of its Autumn initiatives including its Couch to 5K, Men on the Move, Activator Walking with Poles and Introduction to Swimming Programmes. Other initiatives such as park runs, kayaking, cycling and Football for All are also included during  the week from 23rd – 30th September, all can be viewed from our website.

Many other events in the region are taking place including National Fitness Day on Thursday 23rd September. The highlight of the week will be the #BeActive Festival which will be held in the Sport Ireland Campus Dublin on Saturday 24th of September and welcomes new visitors to the world class facilities available there.

A European Commission led initiative; European Week of Sport aims to increase the level of participation in sport and physical activity in the EU. European Week of Sport aims to tackle the inactivity crisis and reduce obesity levels by encouraging Europeans to embrace a healthier and more active lifestyle.

The week is for everyone, regardless of age, background, or fitness level. By bringing awareness to the fact that an active lifestyle is for everyone, European Week of Sport aims to act as a springboard in to being more active.
