CURRENT VACANCIES


Retained Fire Fighter

Mayo County Council is currently setting up panels for the position of Retained Fire Fighter.

Panels will be used to fill vacancies that may occur in Achill Sound, Ballina, Ballyhaunis, Charlestown, Claremorris, Kiltimagh, Swinford, and Westport Fire Stations.

Are you looking to start a new challenging career with Mayo Fire Service? Do you want to be part of a professional service providing a professional service to your local community? We are hosting a Recruitment Day at each of the above Fire Stations between 3pm and 5pm on Saturday 4th February 2023. The information forum will start at 3pm and you will get some insight into the various roles of the firefighter and what is expected of you to fulfil the role. You will also get the chance to speak to our local crews directly. We look forward to meeting you. Please note that this forum will be organised in compliance with COVID 19 safety measures applicable at the time and your cooperation in adhering to same will be required.

Completed application forms should be returned to Human Resouces Section, Mayo County Council, Áras an Chontae, The Mall, Castlebar, Co Mayo not later than 4.00p.m. on Thursday, 16th February, 2023.

The starting pay for new entrants will be at the minimum of the scale and the rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy.


Beach Lifeguard & Head Beach Lifeguard (June - September 2023)

Mayo County Council seeks applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Beach Lifeguard and Head Beach Lifeguard during the period June – September 2023, as required.

Applicants must hold a Water Safety Ireland Beach Lifeguard Award or equivalent, as recognised by the International Lifesaving Federation (ILSF) on commencement of the employment.

The full Beach Lifeguard Course including Examinations will be held from 1st to 7th April, 2023 and a separate application is required for the Full Course. Details can be found at this link.   

The Renewal Beach Lifeguard Course including Examinations will be held from 5th to 7th April, 2023 and a separate application is also required for the Renewal Course.  If you successfully complete the Full or Renewal Beach Lifeguard Course, you will be eligible to compete for employment as a Beach Lifeguard for the 2023 Bathing Season.

Pool Lifeguard - Belmullet Tidal Pool (June - September 2023)

Mayo County Council seeks applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Pool Lifeguard during the period June – September 2023, as required.

Applicants must hold a Water Safety Ireland Pool Lifeguard Award or equivalent, as recognised by the International Lifesaving Federation (ILSF) on commencement of the employment.

Current rate of pay for Beach Lifeguard is €594.50 per week (39 hour/6 day week); €15.24 per hour.
Current rate of pay for Head Beach Lifeguard is €671.45 per week (39 hour/6 day week); €17.22 per hour
Current rate of pay for Belmullet Tidal Pool Lifeguard is €15.24 per hour.


Clerical Officer (Grade III)

Mayo County Council is currently setting up a panel for the position of Clerical Officer
