The “En Route” project reignites interest and experience of local places by exploring personal associations, stories and memories of local routes. The project focused on old routes in the landscape of Bekan, Ballintine and Tulrahan.

Tours of sites in the areas took place in September 2010 as part of the project, with many local people attending and contributing.  Aileen devised the tours based on her encounters with local people during her research, the sites took on a life of their own as people added further information and personal accounts and knowledge.

The launch event took place in Claremorris in January 2011 and there was a huge turnout for this special event in the town. Councillor Michael Burke, Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, officially launched the artwork at the event, congratulating artist Aileen Lambert and everyone involved.

Guest speaker, Jenny Haughton, writer and consultant in the contemporary arts, praised the project and highlighted how far an artwork like this reaches and the great interest in it both locally and nationally from an artistic point of view.
