Mayo Arts Service

Creative Ireland Mayo

Creative Ireland is a five-year all-of-government initiative, from 2017 to 2022, which at its core is a wellbeing strategy which aims to improve access to cultural and creative activity in every county across the country.

Creative Communities is a local authority-led initiative which pioneers and supports local creative projects in arts, heritage, local history, STEAM and the creative industries.

The Creative Ireland Programme established a Culture and Creativity Team in each of the 31 local authorities. Each team comprises cross-sectoral expertise including arts, heritage, libraries, enterprise and community engagement, to foster collaboration and spark new initiatives. Austin Vaughan is the Mayo Creative Ireland Coordinator and County Librarian

Creative Schools is a flagship of the Creative Youth plan – led by the Arts Council in partnership with the Departments of Culture, Heritage & the Gaeltacht, Education & Skills and Children & Youth Affairs, the project is supporting schools of every type, in every county to start a new creative journey.

Primary and post primary schools, and within that DEIS and special schools are a strong focus. The list of current schools is here.
