Mayo County Council, in association with AXA Insurance have been working on this event for over six months and its return after four years is a welcome addition is putting our road safety message out there.

Gary Smyth a/ Road Safety Officer with Mayo County Council explained: “The roadshow has been running in Mayo since 2007 and has proved to be very informative. It depicts graphically how a night out ended in tragedy and permanent disability for one driver..

“The Roadshow is aimed at transition year students and the objective of the show is to encourage young road users, and those about to commence their driving career, to adopt a more responsible attitude in terms of their own driving behaviour. The consequences should they fail to do so will be clearly and graphically demonstrated”.

This years Special guest in Steve Timothy (Farmer Michel) whom himself is now in a wheel chair following a motorcycle accident which also saw the death of his pillion passenger while he was under the influence of alcohol will talk to the students the consequences of one’s actions on the roads

During the show, young people will have an opportunity to benefit from presentations made by An Garda Síochána (Garda Michael Gorman of Mayo Roads Policing in Mayo), the National Ambulance Service (Derek Walsh), Mayo Fire Service (Mr Jason Keane), a consultant based within A&E Department in Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar (Professor Paul O'Grady), a family member of a deceased road traffic accident victim ( Leo Leghio) and a motor cyclist crash survivor  Steve Timothy (Farmer Michael).

There has never been a more time to again bring the message home to our young people about the dangers of not adhering to Road Safety while on the road.
