Lough Carra Life Project Consultation Meeting

Date: 24-10-2022

The Lough Carra LIFE Project will host a consultation meeting for farmers interested in joining the Project’s Agri-environment Scheme in 2023 in Carnacon Community Centre, Carnacon, Co Mayo on Wednesday, November 2nd at 7.30pm.

Lough Carra LIFE is a five-year project led by Mayo County Council which will work towards improving ecosystem resilience and reducing nutrient pollution in Lough Carra.

The project will take place in the Lough Carra catchment, and will work with farmers, other landowners, and local community groups to improve the lake habitat, along with other habitats and species in the area.

One of the Project actions will include the development and administration of a bespoke Agri-environment scheme, specifically adapted for farmers in the Lough Carra catchment.

As part of the process of the scheme development, the Lough Carra LIFE Project team would like to invite farmers in the catchment to this consultation meeting. The Project team will present information on the Lough Carra LIFE Project, and will consult with farmers on the development of the Agri-environment Scheme, to ensure that the scheme is locally adapted, practical, and results focused, as well as properly and fairly funded.

This will be the first of a number of consultations prior to the final drafting of an Agri-environment scheme specific for the area.

The meeting will be hosted by the Lough Carra LIFE Project team and will also be attended by representatives from Mayo County Council, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), Teagasc, and the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).
