Lough Carra Life Project - Open Day For Farmers And Landowners

Date: 18-11-2022

The Lough Carra LIFE Project will host an open day for farmers interested in joining the Project’s Agri-environment Scheme in Belcarra Community Centre on Monday, November 28th from 11am to 7pm.

Farmers may call in at any time during the day to meet members of the project team, and to discuss the Project and the development of the Agri-environment Payments Scheme.

Lough Carra LIFE is a five-year project led by Mayo County Council which will work towards improving ecosystem resilience and reducing nutrient pollution in Lough Carra.

The project will take place in the Lough Carra catchment, and will work with farmers, other landowners, and local community groups to improve the lake habitat, along with other habitats and species in the area.

The project aims to develop a bespoke Agri-environment Payments Scheme specifically adapted for farmers in the Lough Carra catchment.

This open day will form part of a series of consultations with farmers to ensure that the scheme is locally adapted, practical, and results focused, as well as properly and fairly funded.

The open day will be hosted by the Lough Carra LIFE Project team and will be attended by representatives from Mayo County Council, DAFM (Department of Agriculture, Food, and Marine), Teagasc, and the NPWS (National Parks and Wildlife Services).
