Local Live Performance Programming Scheme June Events

A host of music, theatre, storytelling and circus events to take place across the county in June

Mayo County Council Arts Service is delighted to announce a series of events taking place in June, as part of the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme (LLPPS). The scheme is to support those working in the commercial arts and culture sectors by developing events that engage the services of local professional artists, musicians, technicians, producers and other professional practitioners involved in live performances.

On June 5th we have Joe Monaghan presenting Summer Sounds- music and comedy performances at the Linenhall Arts Centre. Performing on the night are musicians Train Room and The John Prine Appreciation Society alongside local comedians Ger Staunton and Owen Colgan.

New arts collective #stateofus will embark on a storytelling journey accompanied by live music and project imagery. Scéalaíocht ‘s Samhlaíocht will take place on Thursday June 16th at 6PM in Ballinrobe Library and Friday June 17th at 6PM in Aras Inis Gluaire, Belmullet.

Pulse Rhythm and Dance takes place on June 17th and features live performances from Stephen Doherty, Robbie Harris, Éadaoin Ní Mhaicín, Lisa Lavelle and Katrina O’Donnell among others. Pulse is the next generation of Irish dance shows, honouring past traditions but blasting them feet first into the 21st century. Venue to be confirmed.

On June 24th and 25th, we have Dancing at the Crossroads, a music and performance midsummer’s concert and ceilí to bring a rousing and inclusive spirit to a special seasonal gathering in the village of Aughagower. The event features Robbie Harris, Steve Cooney, Sky Atlas and Caoilte Cooney. Tickets available on the following Eventbrite link.

To round up this month’s events, on June 25th the town of Belmullet celebrates its rich cultural and artistic heritage on the traditional Celtic feast of Midsummer with street theatre and spectacle events for Midsummer. Iorras Beo, Lár an tSamhraidh is takes place from 9pm to midnight. Further information available at the following link.
