Local Live Performance Programming Scheme Events

Mayo County Council Arts Service is delighted to announce a series events taking place this weekend, May 27th to 29th, as part of the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme (LLPPS). The scheme is to support those working in the commercial arts and culture sectors by developing events that engage the services of local professional artists, musicians, technicians, producers and other professional practitioners involved in live performances.

Wonders of the Wake performances starring David Durham, Caitríona Ni Cheannabhain, Maria Hartnett, Kate Heneghan and Kevin Toolis will take place on May 27th at Clare Island Community Club at 8pm and on May 28th in Inis Turk Community Centre at 9pm. The Wonders of the Wake celebrates the joy and the haunting lament of a traditional Irish Wake with music, song and spoken word.

As part of Home to Mayo celebrations in Ballina and in partnership with the Ballina Fringe Festival, we have The Mournful Croon taking place in Ballina Arts Centre at on May 28th at 8pm. Join this celebration of Mayo Folk Song, featuring a number of Mayo’s established and experienced singers of folk and traditional Irish songs. Tickets available at http://www.ballinaartscentre.com/.

Staying in Ballina, on Sunday May 29th from 2pm – 6pm we have Trad sessions in the Tent, showcasing pieces from Brendan Farrell’s ‘Take Me Home’ show and Trad session with Hup as part of a wider programme of family friendly events, taking place at the Market Square Ballina. Finally, we have new arts collective #Stateofus presents Scéalaíocht ‘s Samhlaíocht, a storytelling event with live music and projected imagery. Events take place on May 28th at Shrule Community Centre at 6pm and in The Friary, Ballyhuanis at 6pm on May 29th.

Admission is free to all events.

The Local Live Performance Programming Scheme is funded through the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and administered by Mayo County Council.
