Home To Mayo Festival Grants Funding Open For Applications

Date: 23-01-2024

Home to Mayo will take place over the month of May this year and is aimed at supporting events which encourage our Diaspora to travel home to the County during the month of May 2024.

Coinciding with Home to Mayo will be Mayo Day on Saturday, May 4th the annual celebration of all things Mayo which will be celebrating its tenth birthday this year.

The Mayo Day flagship event will be hosted in Belmullet in 2024 as part of the Belmullet 200 Celebrations which are taking place across the year. Following on from the success of Mayo Day in Ballina last year as part of the Ballina 300 celebrations another fantastic celebration of the best Mayo has to offer is being planned right now.

To help support community groups who may be planning to hold celebrations, festivals or events that will coincide with Home to Mayo, Mayo County Council are opening a grants process that can aid those groups in putting on their celebration, festival or event.

This a grant process and there is no guarantee of funding for festivals/events that achieve the minimum eligibility conditions. Commercial organisations, for profit organisations and national organisations are not eligible to be considered for this funding.

The fund is limited, and all eligible applications will be evaluated against the criteria set out in the programme guidelines.

To be considered for funding, applicants need to demonstrate the following:

  • That the festival/event has created an event with a focus on encouraging our Mayo Diaspora Home.
  • That the festival/event can guarantee bed nights in the county for the duration for their Event.

Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr Michael Loftus is encouraging community groups around the county to get in their applications for this funding.

“Having been involved in many community groups over the years, I know that funding events and festivals is one of the most difficult things to achieve.

“Home to Mayo is a wonderful initiative to encourage our diaspora from far and wide to come home during the month of May and by having a strong line up of events and festivals during May it will only serve to encourage them even more.

“This funding can be the ignition switch that can turn a good festival into a great festival and one that will live long in the memory of those who do come ‘Home to Mayo’ and make sure that they come back again as soon as possible.  So, get your applications in and make sure your festival or event doesn’t miss out on this funding stream.”

Application forms and funding guidelines are available from www.hometomayo.ie or by emailing: hometomayo@mayococo.ie or by post from Home to Mayo Grant Funding, Communications Office, Mayo County Council, The Mall, Castlebar, Co Mayo
