Mayo Sports Partnership 2021 Annual Report Now Available - See News Item to Download

10,838 people participating in some 89 Mayo Sports Partnership programmes was one of the standout statistics in the organisations recently published 2021 Annual Report. Overall investment, monetary and in kind, through the Partnership was €824,825 which reached practically every corner of the county through participation initiatives or small grants.

Involvement in physical activity became one of the corner stones of maintaining a positive and healthy lifestyle during the long COVID19 lockdown in early 2021. Mayo Sports Partnerships 2021 Annual Report highlights the innovative, inclusive and progressive programmes and initiatives the Partnership has delivered to ensure that everyone in our society has the opportunity to be physically active. New ways of programme delivery were implemented with virtual challenges and classes becoming very popular, hardcopy exercise resource sheets for older adults and people with a disability were also made available through local organisations.
Launching the 2021 report Mayo Sports Partnership Chairman Cllr Michael Loftus paid tribute to clubs and volunteers involved in grassroot sport who continue to impact massively on peoples quality of life. “Clubs and volunteers are at the heart of all communities here in Mayo. The unselfish work they do in providing social outlets for young and old people alike needs to be recognised. Here in Mayo Sports Partnership we are delighted to support these groups through our Return to Sport small grant scheme which we hope to roll out again in 2023 ”
The report, describing the workings of the Sports Partnership during 2021, highlighted the involvement of 836 people with a disability and 2,376 women in both virtual and face to face programmes.
Other highlights from the report demonstrates that Mayo Sports Partnership and its stakeholders provided physical activity opportunities for some 3,919 participants from disadvantaged backgrounds with 1848 people attending 9 training & education events.
Funding support of €62,795 to 85 clubs through COVID19 small grant schemes was also provided with 21,216 people given general or specific sport-related information through MSP online, social media or text promotion.
Cllr Loftus also thanked key stakeholders CEO Una May and staff in Sport Ireland, CE Mayo County Council Kevin Kelly, Director of Services Joanne Grehan, Head of Community and Integrated Development Deirdre Finnerty, fellow Mayo Sports Partnership committee members and many other partners who contribute to the continued development of the umbrella sports body.
Mayo Sports Partnership Head Charlie Lambert praised the commitment of the Partnerships staff and partners in providing accessible participation opportunities for all. “ All the Sports Partnership staff, committee stakeholders, agency partners and communities have worked so hard in 2021 to implement a programme of activities for all sections of our population. Thank you for all your efforts, I deeply appreciate your help.“
