Westport Festival of Chamber Music
Posted in Connect on September 3, 2019.
The Westport Festival of Chamber Music will take place from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th September this year. Concerts will be held in Westport House, Westport Town Hall Theatre and Holy Trinity Church.
There’s a great line up of musicians from around Europe as well as Ireland performing an extensive range of music from Bach to the present day, with one Irish and one American contemporary composer. Other composers include Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Mozart and Handel. Each year the Festival invites young musician(s) to perform in the Next Generation Artists concert at 11.30am in the Town Hall Theatre. This year’s hour-long concert will be performed by prize winning viola player Fiachra de hOra accompanied by pianist Aidan Chan. The late-night concert on the same evening will feature a first for Westport with marimba player Alex Petcu and soprano Kelly Lonergan performing works by Manuel de Falla, Gabriel Fauré and Ernest Chausson.
The Festival programme allows for plenty of time for socialising with coffee/tea included before the Saturday and Sunday morning concerts at 11am. There will be a wine bar at the Friday evening concert in Westport House and the Town Hall Saturday evening concerts. This allows for mingling between the audiences and the musicians. The musicians will be in residence in Wesport from Tuesday 10th, rehearsing and enjoying Westport’s many great restaurants and cafés.
Each concert is designed as a stand-alone event; together they will provide a memorable week-end of music. Full details are available on the Festival’s website www.westportchambermusic.ie
