STRAIDE : OUR PRIDE OF PLACE FILM
Posted in Connect on November 22, 2019.
A remarkable snap-shot of Straide community, Co. Mayo, has been captured on a one-hour documentary film sponsored by the Straide Pride of Place Committee. Tommy Stenson, videographer, assisted by Rosa Meehan, created this magnificent gem. It was made possible because of the tremendous support and involvement of many Straide people.
The documentary features the work of active community groups, young sporting heroes and talented musicians. Memories of life in the past are recalled and stories shared. The film captures the spirit and landscape of beautiful Straide, a great place to live and a wonderful place to visit.
Straide is home to an innovative and inclusive community that remembers its past, and has great hopes for the future. Straide is a place of enduring and well kept historical monuments, the legacies of previous generations. It is proud to be the birth-place of Michael Davitt, a radical reformer and founder of the Land League. Straide is a place of unassuming beauty. The River Moy and its tributaries, which are renowned for salmon, meander through the Straide area which overlooked by the distinctive Nephin and Ox Mountain ranges. Many who pass through Straide on the N58 admire its picturesque Fair Green and Straide Abbey which frame the simple and attractive 19th century cruciform church now home to the Michael Davitt Museum.
The DVD is on sale locally for €15 (with P&P €20 within Ireland, €22 within Europe and €25 elsewhere). The Committee hope it will bring much enjoyment and pride and will be watched and shared and watched again with family and friends. The Committee are very grateful to all who contributed to the making of this film and creating this wonderful show-case and snap-shot of this fabulous County Mayo community and place.
Ní Neart go cur le Chéile :There is Strength in Unity.
