Pride of Place 2023

Mayo County Council is inviting local communities as well as project and housing estate committees to build on the county’s strong track record of success in the IPB Pride of Place Competition by putting their name forward to take part in 2023.

Mayo has enjoyed considerable success in the all-island competition during recent years with overall wins for Belcarra Community Group and Ballina Lions Club in 2020, Ballina Community Clean Up in 2021 and Achill Community Tourism achieving Runner-Up in their category in 2022.

The annual awards programme, which is run by Co-operation Ireland in conjunction with local authorities North and South, aims to recognise and celebrate the vital contributions that communities make to society along with generating awareness, respect and inclusion for every facet of society.

Mayo County Council is inviting expressions of interest from local communities, projects or housing estates who wish to seek nomination to the IPB Pride of Place 2023. 

In early May, the Local Authority will shortlist and nominate groups.  Judging for Pride of Place 2023 takes place between July and September.

There are thirteen categories under which communities can enter. They include:

  1. Population 0 - 500
  2. Population 500 - 1500
  3. Population 1501 - 4000
  4. Population over 4000
  5. Communities welcoming New Communities                 
  6. Creative Place Initiative
  7. Community Wellbeing Initiative
  8. Community Tourism Initiative
  9. Climate Action and Biodiversity
  10. Community Age Friendly Initiative
  11. Housing Estates
  12. Islands & Coastal Communities
  13. Urban Neighbourhoods

Groups interested in being considered for nomination are asked to apply detailing their preferred Category with a one page typed summary (no more than 160 words) setting out their proposal to:

Summary should include:

  • A short description of location.
  • Details of the area represented, or group represented.
  • A short history and details of current activities.
  • Maximum 160 words and should be written as a paragraph in the third person.
  • No Lists, no personalities (named personages), no unexplained acronyms should be included.

One photograph: image to be reproduced at any size print ready should be supplied at a minimum 1748px  x 1240px

The Expressions of Interest will be assessed, based on the Co-Operation Ireland criteria available at www.prideofplace.ie.

Closing date for receipt of expression of interests 4 p.m. 25th April, 2023
