POSTCARDS – 2018 Arts Disability Project

Posted in Connect on December 4, 2018.

At the beginning of 2018 Luisne Art Project embarked on an exciting collaborative arts and disability project. The artists from Luisne Art Project, Scannán Technologies and The Ridgepool Training Centre have had a very creative year.  The three groups have worked closely with five experienced facilitators and staff at TACU Family Resource Centre and The Crann Mór Centre.

Luisne Art Project is a highly successful, nationally recognised arts programme for people with disabilities, based in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo. This partnership project was initiated in December 2004 and is supported by Mayo County Council Arts Office and Western Care with administrative support provided by Tacú, Ballinrobe Family Resource Centre.

The project which has spanned the whole of 2018 has involved Dance and Movement workshops, drum workshops for all participants, film making and sound track recording.

The Launch of the final piece will be performed by Councillor Blackie Gavin, Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, on Thursday 6th December 2018 at 1pm in Ballina Arts Centre. The new short film will be screened and there will be live drum and dance performances. This launch is also a celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2018.

The film POSTCARDS is about exploring one another’s strong personality traits and talking about things you come across on your travels in life that remind you of the people you know – your friends, your family, the people you work/live with.

This project has received funding Mayo Local Action Group (LAG) under the Rural Development Programme 2014 – 2020. The funding has made it possible to create a project that runs throughout the whole of 2018 with a continuity of various workshops that are very beneficial to all involved.

Throughout the duration of this project the artist participants have grown through skilled facilitation and the production of new work, enabling and enhancing further artistic and personal development. The film, which is the end product is a unique piece created by a collaborative arts disability project and this final showcase and performance will be a highlight for the participants.

All are welcome to join the celebration on Thursday 6th December in Ballina Arts Centre at 1pm.
