Crafty Little Christmas Weekend

Start your Christmas celebrations at the Museum this year with a special Crafty Little Christmas Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, December 14 and 15. Go on a ‘decoration hunt’ in the exhibition galleries or search for the Christmas fairies in the woodland. Join artist Cas McCarthy to make some creative festive crafts to bring home and watch a festive film in the theatre. Enjoy choral performances in the exhibition galleries or take part in some cookie decorating in the Museum café. No booking required. See for full event details.

Choral performances in the galleries

The Museum is delighted to be hosting two of the region’s leading choirs on Saturday and Sunday, 14 and 15 December. The Cill Aodain Choral Society will perform in the exhibition galleries at 3.30pm on Saturday. The Mayo Male Voice Choir perform at 3pm on Sunday. Admission is free. No booking required.

Christmas carols

Sing along to some festive favourites at a Christmas carolling session with the Foxford National School Band in the Museum galleries between 1pm and 2.30pm on  Friday, 13 December. This popular annual carolling session is a great way to get in the Christmas spirit. Admission is free. No booking required.

Find the Fairies

Enjoy the beautiful grounds of Turlough Park this Christmas with a fun outdoor trail to seek out the Museum’s Christmas fairies. Don’t forget to look up in the trees as you go. Pick up a map, clipboard and pencil at Reception to start the trail and collect a prize when you find all 10 fairies (while stocks last). This activity is available from December 14 to January 4.

Christmas colouring competition

Help the Museum to decorate the Courtyard Gallery this Christmas. Colour in a festive scene and put it on display. There is a prize up for grabs for the best colouring-in sheet. The draw takes place on January 2 and the winner will be notified afterwards to collect their prize at the Museum. The prize will be on display in the Museum café from December 14.

Decoration Hunt

There is a new indoor Christmas trail through the exhibition galleries this year for young Museum visitors. Collect an activity sheet at Reception to go on a decoration hunt across three floors of exhibition galleries. Solve the clues to find the decorations and spell a Christmas object. Check your answers at Reception to collect a prize (while stocks last). This activity is available from December 14 to January 4. No booking required. Admission is free.

The Museum is open as normal throughout the Christmas and New Year season with the exception of Christmas Eve (closed at 1pm) and Christmas Day (closed).
