Mescan Brewery Pairs up with the Tavern Murrisk

The Mescan Food-Pairing Guide was launched by Fáilte Ireland Food Tourism Executive PJ Hartnett, and is available now either online or printed for distribution around your restaurant or bar.

The guide was developed by Inge Roels, a Belgian expert in food pairing who has worked with the brewery since its early days. She has produced a food pairing guide for each of the beers, to make it easier for people when choosing, or advising, which beer to serve on their own or with a customer’s meal.

At the launch, The Tavern’s executive chef Myles O’Brien presented dishes to match each of the Mescan beers. Kelly’s black oudding croquettes with dillisk yoghurt and a jalapeno sauce were paired with Mescan Red Tripel; fresh hake goujons and aioli were paired with Mescan White; and a beef and stout casserole with baby potatoes was paired with Mescan Westporter stout.

“I really enjoy the process of pairing food with the most complementary beer,” explained Myles. “Many people prefer drinking beer to wine and just aren’t aware that drinking the correct one can make a huge difference to their dining experience. I think this is a great step from Mescan and I hope it’s a big success for them.”

“Mescan craft beers are exceptionally suited to enjoying with food,” said Cillian Ó Móráin of Mescan Brewery. “We were inundated with queries as to the best pairings from consumers and from restaurants and bars. We wanted to create something simple yet effective that would help people enjoy our beers with the optimum foods – hence the Mescan Food-Pairing Wheel was born.”

The Mescan range currently consists of nine craft beers, all brewed in the Belgian style using traditional methods. They are vegan friendly and 100% natural.
