Mayo’s award winning 1916 Traditional Irish Music and Dance Heritage show called ‘Saoirse na hÉireann’ – Isle of Hope is set to tour the UK in March.
The show by Atlantic Rhythm Productions from Crossmolina will be visiting the main Irish centres in Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester from the 9-11 March 2017 taking part in the Leeds Irish Festival, the Liverpool Irish Festival and Europe’s biggest Irish Festival which takes place in Manchester. They are hoping that companies, organisations or individuals with a Mayo connection might be able to help them sponsor the ambitious tour which will be showcasing the best of the Counties musical and dancing talent as well as promoting various aspects of Mayo Tourism and Irish culture.
The Mayo Manchester Tourism and Business group have already offered their help in putting the tour together along with supporting the group with their digital marketing expertise and huge social media presence. They just need some support to help them offset the various costs of the tour. Tony Hennigan from Mayo Manchester commented “It is great to see this very talented and hard working group of performers doing so well. We have been working with them for the last four years and are delighted to be able to help them bring their 1916 Saoirse na hÉireann – ‘Isle of Hope’ Centenary Show to the UK. Tickets for the show are already on sale and are expected to sell out very quickly and need to be purchased well in advance. It is an enormous undertaking to bring such a show on tour to the UK and we were only too happy to offer our support. It would be a great opportunity for any company or organisation with a Mayo connection to promote their own business in the UK, especially those involved in Mayo Tourism. Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester have always had huge Mayo Diaspora communities and the tour is ideally placed for people wanting to tap into those markets. ”
“I am sure that the audiences in the UK will love the breathe taking dancing routines along with the 1916 heritage costumes and the traditional Irish Country Cottage set. The show is a real celebration of our Irish culture and it makes you want to get up and join the party on the stage. It is great to see the dancers being accompanied by live musicians and the Sean nos singing certainly brought a tear to my eye.”
Shelia Lavelle from Atlantic Rhythm and the Moffatt School of Irish Dancing added “The group are very excited about the tour and we would like to thank all the venues for their support and groups like Leeds CCE, Liverpool CCE, The Keegan Academy of Irish Dancing and the Fianna Phadraig Pipe band who have already committed their support for us on the tour.”
The show which features a cast of 18 musicians, singers and dancers will visit Leeds Irish Centre on Thursday 9 March, St Michael’s Irish Centre in Liverpool on Friday 10 March and Manchester’s Chorlton Irish Club on Saturday 11 March.
The specially created centenary celebration had its sell out world premiere during the recent Mayo Manchester Tradfest in July. It is set in an Irish Country Cottage in 1916 in County Mayo and has already won a number of awards and an offer of a tour to Boston in the USA as well as the UK tour. It tells the story of a family growing up in the West of Ireland. The script is brought to life with a series of action backed displays of traditional Irish Dancing which include Barrel dancing, Brush Dancing and Set Dancing. The dancers are accompanied by traditional sean-nos singers who perform a series of classic Irish Ballads which take the audience back to the turn of the last century. The show is backed by a group of accomplished traditional musicians who provide the live tunes for the dancers and singers along with their own specially created traditional compositions.
The talented cast have acquired six world Irish Dancing titles and a number of awards which include the 2016 Ballina Salmon Festival Award and the prestigious 2016 Siamsa Sraide award.
