Mayo to host a wide range of events for National Bike Week

Would you like to take advantage of the longer brighter days by getting out on your bike? A challenge is going out to all families and people of all ages to dust off their bikes and trikes for a bumper week of cycling activity during National Bike Week 2015 .28 different events are sceduled to take place in Mayo from Saturday 13th – Sunday 21st June beginning on the Saturday with a family cycle in Mulranny along the …Great Western Greenway and a Family Day out in Kilmovee with adult group cycle, children cycle races etc. Other events include a Vintage Cycle in Lecanvey on Sunday 14th June and a Ballina family leisure cycle at Belleek Woods on Tuesday 16th at 7pm. A Ballycastle family leisure cycle will also take place on Saturday 20th at 12 Noon from Downpatrick Head with a number of other initiatives also planned by Westport Smarter Travel.

Minister of State for Transport, Tourism and Sport Michael Ring whose department has allocated €5,000 towards Bike Week in Mayo has expressed his support for all communities who are organising these fantastic array of events.
Similar to last year the Bike Week Steering Committee comprising of representatives from Mayo County Council, Mayo Sports Partnership, An Taisce, Westport Smarter Travel and the Road Safety Authority have decided to place a focus on a number of School Cycle events which are scheduled for Westport, Castlebar, Ballyhaunis, Swinford, Claremorris and Ballinrobe.
Sunday 21st June also sees a Fathers Day Family Cycle taking place on the newly opened Turlough Greenway. Organised by Castlebar club a special appeal is out to all families who would like to celebrate fathers day in a unique manner to join in this free event. Meeting point is at the entrance to the new town park beside the Bike Clinic Springfield Castlebar and start time is 2pm sharp. Participants will be served with light refreshments on arrival at Turlough House.
