Mayo set to take over Manchester for worldwide Mayo Day celebrations

Levenshulme village in South Manchester is set to be turned Green and Red for the worldwide Day celebrations on Saturday 5 May. Levenshulme is home to one of the biggest Mayo diaspora communities in the UK and Mayo Manchester are taking over the popular m19bar on Stockport Road in the centre of the vilage to stage a special Mayo Manchester Mayo Day Tradfest.

The group are flying over The Murphy Sisters from Mayo to headline the concert, the three piece Vocal harmony Trad group have just recently finished a Tour of France with the Urban Voices project. Supporting the group on the night is Orlagh Kenny plus the Manchester based Trad group Moor Irish and The Grace Kennedy School of Irish Dancing and Peter O’Connor from the Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band.

Mayo Manchester have teamed up with Hotel Westport and Westport House to give away a two night stay for 2 at the Four Star Hotel and a two day pass at the award winning Westport House.

Tony Hennigan from Mayo Manchester commented “We have just finished a very successful  two week Mayo Tourism campaign during this years Manchester Irish Festival. We can’t wait for our special Mayo Day concert, it s a great line up and we hope that the Mayo community in Manchester will be out in force to support their County.

Mayo Day is an award winning global celebration of all things Mayo which takes place annually all over the globe on Saturday 5 May which started in 2013. The Mayo Diaspora community is invited to stage an event in their home town around the world to help celebrate Ireland’s biggest County in the West of Ireland. There are already key events in place from Buffalo in the States to Levenshulme in the UK and all over Europe, South East Asia and as far down as Australia as well as back home in Mayo.

Tickets for the Mayo Day Tradfest are available online from £5 and to enter the Mayo Day competition to win a two night stay at he 4 star Hotel Westport and a two day pass at Westport House visit . Tickets are also available from Freds Ale House on Stockport Road in Levenshulme.
