After its sell-out concert during last year’s August Bank Holiday weekend, the Mayo Manchester Tradfest returns once more to the Achill Head Hotel to stage an evening of Irish Music song and
Dance on Friday, August 2, which will feature a host of its performers. The special evening will be hosted by Alan Keegan – the Voice of Old Trafford and Manchester United Football Club.
The festival is one of Ireland’s biggest traditional Irish music, song and dance festivals. It features over 500 performers taking part in over 100 events at eight different hubs in Mayo along the Wild Atlantic Way. Over 90 percent of the events in the week-long family friendly festival are free of charge and accessible to all. The areas included in this year’s festival are as follows: Achill Island,
Ashford Castle and Cong, Attymass, Ballina, Bonniconlon, Castlebar, Claremorris and Westport. The festival is already the winner of Mayo’s International Award and was a finalist in Fáilte Ireland’s Tourism Industry Awards for festivals which attract over 50,000 visitors. Tony Hennigan from Mayo Manchester commented:
“The festival is a legacy event from the Mayo Manchester Gathering which we organised in 2013. The event won Tourism Ireland’s biggest gathering of the year and has since gone on to win the Mayo International award and was a finalist representing Mayo in the Fáilte Ireland Tourism Industry awards for festivals attracting over 50,000 visitors. It keeps on growing each year with more events and venues being added and we are very grateful for the support we receive both in Mayo and Manchester to stage the festival.”
The festival’s featured performers from Manchester include the award-winning Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band, Irish singer and traditional Irish musician, Joe Keegan from the TV show The Voice, flute player John Gibson and Irish fiddle player Fidelma O’Brien. Performers from Mayo include: sean nós dancers, the Ganley Sisters as seen on RTÉ’s Late Late Show, the award winning Foxford Brass Band, Ballina’s Centre Stage Vocal Academy, Shauna O’Boyle, Dennis McCalmont and the award winning Turley Duggan School of Irish Dancing plus Ireland’s hottest new Country act – Sina Theil.
