MAYO DAY 2015 – A GLOBAL CELEBRATION OF OUR MAYO-NESS
Posted in Connect on January 15, 2015.
The Inaugural MAYO DAY was a great success and will go from strength to strength in 2016.
The first MAYO DAY, 2015, was a celebration of Mayo people and communities at home and abroad. On May 2nd last, Mayo people around the world celebrated all that is great about our county.
The Day was an opportunity for businesses, communities, families and individuals to promote and enjoy who we are and where we come from. It is one day in the year that recognises and celebrates Mayo and its people.
There was a huge response to the MAYO DAY initiative with events and gatherings happening worldwide as well as across the county and country.
Important buildings and global landmarks were turned green and red for the day, with Niagara Falls only the most famous of a series of iconic locations which took part.
Businesses offered special MAYO DAY promotions while schools, clubs and societies all marked the day in their own special way.
The major aims of MAYO DAY were:
- to promote Mayo internationally as a great location for business and tourism
- to further enhance the image of Mayo as a progressive ‘Will do’ county and as the heartbeat of the Wild Atlantic Way
The Enterprise and Investment Unit worked in partnership with Irish TV to deliver a two-hour gala concert, Mayo Day Live, on the night of May 2nd from the TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar.
The show was broadcast live, on both television and online, to a global audience.
Mayo Day Live showed off a proud, confident county that is open, welcoming and offers opportunities for tourism and investment.
The concert and broadcast was also a celebration of the county and its people; as well as their achievements and their potential.
It showcased Mayo on a global stage highlighting the VISIT, CONNECT, INVEST message of the county.
MAYO DAY has raised the profile of Mayo globally and will continue to do so.
MAYO DAY 2016 WILL TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY APRIL 30TH 2016.
