Mayo County Library – Online Library Services
Posted in Connect on March 20, 2020.
Hello to everyone from behind the closed doors of the library – a very strange place to be this week. We are using the time to do the projects we’ve always wanted to tackle – which will add to your enjoyment of the library and its facilities when we are open again. For now, we just wanted to let you know about our great online services – all of which can be accessed from home, day or night. If your library card has expired, or you can’t remember your PIN – phone the library at 094 9047940 or email email@example.com and we’ll sort you out. If you don’t have a library card, you can sign up for one using this link https://lgma.iii.com/selfreg, or we can register you over the phone. In the meantime, here’s a quick guide to our online services – we’ve got ebooks, audiobooks, online magazines and newspapers, and even language learning courses. Please feel free to share this email. Look forward to seeing you all when we reopen; in the meantime – mind yourselves.
Ebooks & Audiobooks
Download ebooks and audiobooks directly to your smartphone or tablet (ebooks do not work on the regular Kindle reader, but will work on Kindle Fire), or transfer audiobooks from your PC to an MP3 player and listen away. You’ll need your library card number and PIN (the same PIN you use to renew books online) to sign up for BorrowBox. You can do it through the library website at www.mayolibrary.ie (click on Your Library ONLINE, and then “E-books and E-audiobooks”) or by downloading the BorrowBox app from the App Store, Google Play or Amazon Fire. If you’ve downloaded the app, select Mayo County Council Library Services and log in with your card number (where it asks for ID/Barcode) and PIN. Agree to the terms and conditions, and that’s it, you’re signed in and ready to browse and read! The books will automatically disappear when the loan period finishes. For any support queries, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
You can access newspapers – including the Irish Independent and a range of other local and international papers – through the library website at www.mayolibrary.ie (click on Your Library ONLINE, and then ‘Online Newspapers’) or by downloading the PressReader app for apple or android devices. You will need to log in with your library number, here’s how: press ‘sign in’; select the ‘Libraries & Groups’ option; a list of libraries will then open and you can choose yours – start typing Mayo and it will pop up; you will then be asked to enter your library card number. That’s it – you’re now logged and ready to read! Your login grants you 30 days access initially. When this time has expired a new period can be started simply by logging out and back in using the same method. For any support queries, please email email@example.com
RB Digital contains hundreds of titles from Hello to Good Food to Cosmopolitan and National Geographic. There are also titles for children, including National Geographic Kids, Horrible Histories and Storytime. They can be downloaded to your computer, laptop, smartphone or tablet. Again, you can download the app directly, or do it through our website online (www.mayolibrary.ie, click on Your Library ONLINE, and then click ‘Online Magazines’). You will have to register for a free account, with your library number. To do this: click ‘register’; choose country; select Mayo County Libraries; click on ‘create account’; enter your library card number; create a username; enter a password. That’s it, you’re all set up! For any support queries please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Transparent Languages can be accessed through RB Digital, the same portal that provides access to magazines. Follow the instructions as above for ‘Magazines’ to sign up to RBDigital. Once you’re logged in to RB Digital, you’ll see a link to Transparent Languages – just under the magazines. Click that and you’ll be taken to the service.
