Mayo Career Fair 2019 – GMIT Castlebar 12th January 2019 – Helping Teens With Career Choice

Senior cycle and pre-senior cycle students, and their families, are invited to attend the Mayo Career Fair 2019, in GMIT, Castlebar, Co. Mayo, on Saturday, January 12 (11am to 3pm).
The purpose of Mayo Career Fair 2019 is to arm students and families with key information on the various options available to them upon completing their second-level education. Admission will be free of charge.
Brian Mooney, a Guidance Counsellor and educational expert, will be in attendance as a guest speaker on the day. As an educational analyst with a weekly column in the Irish Times, he will deliver a comprehensive presentation with the most relevant, current and strategic information useful in researching and preparing for career pathways.
Angelina Nugent has also been confirmed as a guest speaker on the day. Angelina Nugent is Sports Editor with Midwest Radio and also works as part of the news team at the station. Additional speakers will be announced closer to the event.
Stands from leading CAO universities and colleges from Ireland and the UK will afford students the opportunity to ask key questions about those institutions, entry requirements and employment possibilities. Non-college options will also be presented on the day.
There will also be presentations on the CAO application process, SUSI – grant applications, HEAR / DARE – Higher Education Access Route and Disability Access Route to Education, Apprenticeships, UCAS – application process to UK Colleges, UNICAS – application process to European colleges and bursaries and scholarships
The event is being organised by The Education and Training Working Group of Mayo Local Community Development Committee, Mayo County Council, Mayo.ie, Mayo Sligo Leitrim Education and Training Board, South Mayo GAA Board and supported by Mayo Local Enterprise Office (LEO), Mayo Local Employment Service (LES), Health Service Executive (HSE), Údarás na Gaeltachta, Probation Service, the Mayo GAA Coaching Committee, St Jarlath’s Credit Union (Tuam) and Claremorris/Ballinrobe Credit Union, South West Mayo Development Company and the Mayo North East LEADER Partnership.

Post-primary students from third, fourth fifth and sixth years, and their parents are invited. People from outside the county are also more than welcome to come along.
Students and their families are invited to come along on the day and speak with the various representatives from the colleges and other entities.
