National Biodiversity Week To Be Celebrated In Mayo

Date: 09-05-2025

National Biodiversity Week 2025 takes place between May 16th to 25th and Mayo will be buzzing for National Biodiversity Week 2025, with an action-packed week celebrating Ireland’s biodiversity, nature and natural heritage.

Biodiversity Week is all about connecting people with nature and highlighting its importance to our lives.

To celebrate the fantastic and diverse nature present in Mayo, Mayo County Council Biodiversity Office will run a series of events across the county over 10 days.

The events will cover a wide range of topics, species and habitats such as exploring the journey undertaken by many of our bird species, discovering the value and importance of our native woodlands, learning about the fascinating lives of bumblebees, along with whale and dolphin watching.

Other events include learning about our dark skies and bats with a bat walk, gardening for nature and the launch of the 2024 Mayo Swift Report.

Everyone from all ages and backgrounds are welcome to participate and learn about the importance of our biodiversity.

All events are free; however, some may require booking. Please dress for weather conditions and wear suitable footwear for outdoor events. All children need to be supervised by parent/guardian at events.

For more information on events supported and run by Mayo Biodiversity Office please see www.mayo.ie/events or contact Mayo Biodiversity Office at biodiversity@mayococo.ie
