Ballina “One Act” Drama festival 2019

Now well established on the circuit Ballina One Act Drama festival is prepared to host it’s 5th event which welcomes players from 8 counties – Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, Clare, Cork, Wexford, Co Dublin and Kildare. Festival Director Marie Loftus is delighted that the numbers of patrons staying in town for the weekend is constantly increasing and agrees that it is great to give back to the community.

The programme this year includes a balanced mix of drama and comedy with groups competing between open and confined competition to earn a spot in the All Ireland Finals in West Cork in December.  Saturday night features the Moat Club, Naas, national winners of 2018 and open finalists Coolgreaney, Co Wexford  and Palace Players, Fermoy, Co Cork.

The team are delighted to welcome Walker Ewart as adjudicator. Walker has extensive experience in all fields of theatre and plays an important role in the overall success of the festival.

The  awards have been handcrafted at Iron Excellence, Killala  by  John Hogan and the Adjudicators Award is crafted by Rosie’s Pottery in Easkey.

Our “Special Guest” this year is SEAN WALSH who will open the festival on Friday 1st November.

Sean is the Director of Ballina Arts Centre and together with his team continue to be an invaluable support to the committee and crew in the execution of a seamless event which greatly assists with the application to host the All Irelands in Ballina in the near future.

Ticket prices remain at €10 nightly and there is a limited amount of Season Tickets available at €25.

Curtain up nightly at 7.30pm with an interval after the 2nd play with an earlier start time of 7pm on Sunday to facilitate the Awards Ceremony at approximately 10pm.

The Festival Club runs nightly at the Ballina Manor Hotel and is open to all patrons.
