'Look For Local' Campaign Launched To highlight Mayo Businesses

Date: 04-12-2020

Businesses and consumers asked to #LookForLocal this Christmas and support Mayo businesses and jobs

Mayo County Council encourages people and businesses to shop local this Christmas, by purchasing items and services in Co Mayo, you are supporting local businesses and bolstering employment in the county.

As part of our on-going and continuous support of local enterprise in the county, we have compiled a directory of 170 Mayo businesses available here (www.mayo.ie/look-for-local). The businesses have an e-commerce offering or a phone-to-order service, making it a simple process for any individual or business to support local. Just pick up the phone and call their number to place your order, or go online and purchase from their website, don’t forget many businesses offer either home delivery or collection.

Mayo County Council reminds our friends and family who live away from home that you don’t have to be local to shop local. Websites and social media pages offer a 24hr online opportunity for anyone, anywhere to make enquiries or order services and goods to be delivered to those they love at home, and many businesses also offer international delivery. Your effort to shop local will make a huge difference to your home town or village

Cllr Richard Finn, Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council said, “I would like to remind everyone that even with restrictions in place, you can still shop local – whether the shops are physically open or selling products through click and collect services. We all want to have a safe Christmas. Retailers have made huge sacrifices to keep us all safe and I know many have worked hard to adapt and move online. When picking up gifts this Christmas, it’s crucial that we do so safely to prevent the spread of the virus.

Speaking of this vital local enterprise campaign Interim Chief Executive of Mayo County Council Peter Duggan said; “It’s been a really tough year for business owners, their staff and families. I know many people are already looking to support their local business this Christmas. Small businesses are a crucial part of our economy and I hope we can all get behind them this Christmas.”

Elaine Moyles, Acting Head of Enterprise Mayo County Council “We are delighted to support the ‘Look for Local’ campaign and all efforts to showcase and celebrate local enterprise. Small businesses and retailers are the lifeblood of a rural county like Mayo and they provide vital economic activity and employment opportunities. They have faced unprecedented challenges since March and local authorities have been working to support them as much as possible. We would urge all consumers and businesses to do the same, and to look out for Irish businesses this Christmas.”
