Mayo has exciting opportunities in life sciences

“Hollister is part of a strong cluster of life-sciences companies in the West region, which is hugely important to the local economy. I would like to acknowledge the management and staff at the Ballina plant, Mayo, who over the past 40 years, have achieved global responsibility for many of Hollister’s products”

Barry O’Leary, Former Chief Executive, IDA

Mayo’s business support agencies are actively developing a cluster of bio-tech and life sciences companies. As generators of high-skilled, high-paying jobs, companies in these sectors are much sought after in the labour market as ‘employers of choice’.

In targeting this sector, Mayo is looking to take advantage of the West of Ireland’s strong international reputation and track record in the life sciences sector.

Mayo already has significant success on the front, attracting companies such as Baxter and Allergan. The aim is to build on that success.

A new Investment Strategy from Mayo County Council’s Enterprise and Investment Unit promotes Mayo’s attractiveness, performance and potential as a competitive business location for life sciences companies, both start-ups and existing companies, Irish and foreign-based. The aim is to attract investment, win jobs and secure employment on a sustainable basis.
