Mayo County Council’s Enterprise & Investment Unit (EIU) commissioned PMG Consult to conduct a review and analysis of the key Emerging Economic Sectors.

The study, analytical in nature, also contained scope for strategic advice regarding supports for priority sectors and investments necessary to advance Mayo’s opportunity.  Its recommendations include guidance on developing Emerging Economic Sectors, how to stimulate initial or critical projects and to advance sector specific enterprise investment, ultimately with a view to clustering impacts. Above all this report provides a roadmap for sector based employment opportunity in Mayo, informing policy and practice towards shaping future economic development.  The final report can be found here

The EIU is now conducting two pieces of major work emanating from our Emerging Sectors report. The first, our Investment Strategy seeks to assist in sourcing and securing new employment from indigenous company expansion and attract new international investment to position Mayo central to commercial investment locally, nationally & internationally.

The second seeks to build on Mayo’s growing reputation as a haven for technology start ups businesses and their international conferences and events. The EIU sees significant opportunity for job creation in the local Digital Sector, a cluster of innovative digital enterprises that have emerged in recent years across Mayo, illustrating the potential for significant innovation.  A strategy to harness the capacity in Mayo for entrepreneurship and employment is currently under development.
