Return to the Joyce Country - Talk and Book Launch

May 16 @ 12:00 am - May 16 @ 12:00 am

Patrick Joyce will talk about his new book “Going to My Father’s House” at a book launch and talk at the Irish History Bookshop in Cong at 8pm on Monday 16 May. Patrick is Emeritus Professor of History at the University of Manchester and a leading social historian. His father emigrated from Kilbride in the Joyce Country to London in the 1930’s and Patrick begins his book with reflections on his childhood trips back to his father’s home and his connections to Ireland. Part memoir and part social history, the book has gathered substantial critical acclaim. Colm Toibin described it as “A haunting meditation on Ireland and England,” while the late Seamus Deane wrote “Patrick Joyce is so gifted a writer that he enriches those topics that remain elusive while also being starkly present.” Patrick will read from his book and answer questions as well as talking about his forthcoming work “Remembering Peasants”. Following the talk, he will also be available to sign copies of “Going to My Father’s House”. All are welcome to attend, and admission is free of charge, but booking is advised. More information is available from The Irish History Bookshop at or by telephoning 094 954 5292.
