This Earth Day Home to Mayo invites you to join in our Green Journey

Date: 22-04-2022

Mayo people are a proud people – proud of their origins, loyal to home and never lose their sense of place. Home to Mayo aims to celebrate this pride and these connections with diaspora all over the world. As part of these celebrations Home to Mayo offers Mayo people opportunities to learn how individuals, communities, businesses, and the council are working to protect both our beautiful county and the wider world and invites diaspora to join in.

Taking place on April 30th, Mayo Day, the first in a bumper series of Home to Mayo events taking place around the county during the month of May, will be signing the ‘Green your Festival Charter’. This charter signifies the events commitment to protecting the environment through measures such as providing segregated bins, requesting all stall holders follow good environmental practises and providing tips of how visitors can limit their impact on the environment. Home to Mayo organisers are providing Green your Festival info packs to all event organisers and encouraging all events to join and be green.

Climate Action signage will also be erected throughout the county for visitors to see a snapshot of some of the many climate action initiatives that are happening throughout the county. A map of the Climate Action Signage will be available on the Home to Mayo website.

On May 30th, Mayo Change Makers, will close out the month of events.  This event, hosted by the Mary Robinson Centre, will spotlight the work of Mayo people around the world in climate action and protecting our planet and allow a forum for connecting and networking with likeminded Mayo people. For bookings go to http://www.maryrobinsoncentre.ie/mayo-changemakers.html

We are aware of the carbon footprint involved in travelling to Mayo for Home to Mayo and that is why we are linking with two Mayo connected Carbon offset organisation: Vita is an Irish NGO partnering with communities in East Africa to develop sustainable futures, who’s co-founder and current chair are both of Mayo and Catch my Carbon plant trees in Mayo. Both carbon offsets options are available on the Home to Mayo webpage.

Home to Mayo is proud of our Green ambition and we look forward to you joining us on our green journey.
