Mayo County Council win All Ireland Community & Council Award for Mayo Day – Ár bPobal, Our People

Mayo County Council took home first prize in the Best Arts, Culture (including Festivals & Events) category at the 2021 All Ireland Community & Council Awards in Dublin on Saturday, April 9th for Mayo Day – Ár bPobal, Our People. 

A one-hour flagship programme broadcast on Mayo Day 2021, 1st of May 2021 on TG4, and on the TG4 Player worldwide, Mayo Day – Ár bPobal, Our People celebrated all things Mayo, featuring the finest Mayo music and culture, conversation and craic and showcasing Mayo’s outstanding beauty to a global audience.

The Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr Michael Smyth, welcomed the award saying that “It is a great achievement for this project to do so well, bringing recognition to the county on a national stage”.

Held annually in conjunction with the Local Authority Members Association (LAMA) and Irish Public Bodies Insurances, these awards recognise and celebrate community and councils working together, providing an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the work done within our communities.

Additionally, the Clew Bay Bike Trail took home a Bronze Award in the Best Tourism Intiative category. Mayo County Council was shortlisted in three further categories:

  • Protect Our Dunes Campaign - Best Environmental/Ecological Project/Initiative Category.
  • Light up for Road Safety – Best Community Health Initiative.
  • Mayo Decarbonising Communities Network - Best Environmental/Ecological Project/Initiative Category.
