Date: 10-08-2021

Do Not Swim Notice for Portacloy, Carrowmore and Tallaghbawn beaches. Swim Advisory Notices for Dugort, Silver Strand and Ballycastle Beaches.

Following on from the Prior Warning notice issued by Mayo County Council on Friday 6th August, 2021 advising of the possibility of  an adverse impact on water quality due to forecast heavy rainfall, Mayo County Council  now wishes to advised the public that following receipt of bathing water quality results from samples taken on Monday 9th August, 2021, the following notices have been issued;

  • Do Not Swim notice for Portacloy, Carrowmore and Tallaghbawn beaches.
  • Swim Advisory notice for Dugort, Silver Strand, Ballycastle beaches.

Arrangements have been made for resampling of the bathing waters with results expected to be available before Friday next.

Mr. Martin Keating, Head of Environment, Climate Change and Agriculture stated that the bathing water quality has been temporarily impacted at these beaches as a result of the extremely heavy rainfall experienced in the area over the last number of days. It is expected that the resampling exercise will show significant improvement in water quality before next weekend. We are fortunate however to have a numerous beaches with excellent water quality around the Mayo coastline which will provide ample alternatives for bathing during this period.
