Mayo County Council Call Out To Local Communities ‘Be Part Of The #ToBeIrish @ Christmas Campaign’

Date: 02-12-2020

We are reaching out to everyone in Mayo, whether from a large town, a rural community or a small village, to ask you to take part in Mayo’s answer to the ‘To Be Irish @ Christmas’, a national initiative running from the 21st - 31st December 2020.

Three quarters of a million of our Irish Diaspora will not be returning home over the Christmas holiday period due to the Covid-19 restrictions, this campaign is all about connecting with them during this disconnected time.

‘To Be Irish @ Christmas’ is a campaign that will feature a wide-ranging programme of events that showcase and celebrate Irish culture, craft, community initiatives and Christmas traditions.

Anyone can get involved by sending us community Christmas images showcasing your community’s festive cheer, from Christmas lights, from your town crib to a Christmas tree lit up in all its festive glory; may be one of your local shops has a wonderfully decorated window display, or perhaps you’re the proud owner of that one house that lights up the whole neighbourhood, well then, send us some photos - the more the merrier.

These special images will be compiled and showcased on Mayo.ie and on the national campaign website: www.tobeirish.ie

We want to reach out to the many Mayo people around the globe who can’t come home for Christmas and help them feel more connected to their family and friends at home when they see photos of the places they grew up in looking magically festive.

How to get involved?

  • To see your photos from Mayo be part of the national #ToBeIrish, use this hashtag and tag your pics with @Mayodotie on Twitter or Instagram
