Mayo County Council announce closure of Playgrounds and MUGA’s

Date: 20-03-2020

In light of the ongoing Covid-19 related restrictions, Mayo County Council can confirm that all playground and Multi Use Games Areas (MUGA) facilities throughout the county are now closed.

All other outdoor recreational facilities, including Greenways and walkways, remain open to the public. Mayo County Council urge the public, however, to observe Social Distancing and exercise caution when using these facilities.

Parks Superintendent with Mayo County Council, Peter Gill, confirmed the closures today; “On the advice of the HSE, and in line with government measures, Mayo County Council have taken the decision to close all playgrounds and Multi Use Games Areas.

“This decision was taken to avoid situations where children are interacting with each other. The public need to continue using social distancing for the foreseeable future and it is hoped that closing these facilities will assist in further limiting the spread of the virus.”

We endeavour to keep the public updated with any disruption to our services through local media and Mayo County Council media channels.

We would strongly advise the public to follow the guidance issued by our health professionals in relation to COVID-19. In addition, we would encourage the public to watch out for each other particularly the vulnerable in our society.
