Connected Communities Go Live in Mayo Friday 11th December

Mayo County Council and the Department for Rural and Community Development Broadband announce that on Friday 11th December at 4:15pm, a virtual launch of phase one of Mayo’s Connected Communities will take place on Mayo.ie’s Facebook Page.
Connected Communities are Broadband Connection Points that a key part of the National Broadband Plan (NBP). They will be officially connected by Cathaoirleach, Cllr Richard Finn, Interim Chief Executive Peter Duggan and Deputy Michael Ring.
Connected Communities is an initiative of the Government of Ireland, in partnership with Vodafone to provide free high-speed internet access at publicly accessible sites like Community Centres for remote work, study, community/digital skills training, filing of forms and applications and a host of other digitally enabled services and amenities.
The initiative provides communities Vodafone WiFi access connectivity in advance of homes and businesses receiving future-proofed fibre broadband directly to their door. This will enable people living in the area to go to the selected location and access WiFi for daily use including remote working, e-learning and general access.
Locations of each BCP in the communities listed:
- Bofeenaun Community Centre;
- Clare island Community Centre;
- Islandeady Community Centre;
- Killasser Community Centre;
- Taugheen Community Centre.
