Mayo County Council Welcomes Today's Announcement That Ballina Has Won A Bank of Ireland Begin Together 2020 Award.

Recognising business and community groups who have come together to support their locality in recovering from the impact of Covid-19; Ballina won the award for the population category 7,000-14,000, which carries a prize of €10,000.

The judges believed that Ballina shows great confidence as it prepares to celebrate its 300th anniversary, in 2023, with many exciting major projects in progress including “The Mary Robinson Centre”. They also noted the town's efforts to tackle dereliction, improve biodiversity, and support businesses and community organisations.

Speaking of the announcement Tom Gilligan, Director of Services at Mayo County Council said;  "The people of Ballina's community spirit won this award. All Stakeholders have come together over these past few difficult months to volunteer and collaborate together in improving the overall appearance of our beautiful town, but also to work on ambitious and innovative proposals to deliver a vision of Ballina 2023."
